Part-time Social Media Associate
Battery Park City AuthorityThe Part-Time Social Media Associate supports the organization's communications and outreach efforts through graphic design, video editing, content ideation, and production. Battery Park City Authority is dedicated to creating and sustaining a vibrant, environmentally responsible community on Manhattan's waterfront, one that blends world-class public spaces, public art, and programming with a strong commitment to the people who live, work, and visit here. This role helps bring that work to a wider audience, shaping how the Authority's vision, sustainability efforts, and public resources are told across social platforms through content that is both visually compelling and true to the organization's mission.
Essential Duties:
Working under the guidance of the Social Media Director, the Part-time Social Media Associate provides a steady pipeline of ready-to-publish creative content, reducing production bottlenecks and allowing the Director to focus on strategy, platform growth, key messaging, and campaign planning. The Associate acts as an extension of the Director's creative vision, translating broader messaging goals into engaging, platform-ready material.
- Shoot and edit short-form video content for platforms such as Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube
- Design graphics for social media posts, stories, and other organization needs that align with Battery Park City Authority's brand and visual identity
- Generate content ideas and concepts that highlight the Authority's public spaces, programs, sustainability initiatives, and community events
- Assist in the production of photo and video shoots, including setup, filming, and on-site coordination
Additional Responsibilities:
- Support the Social Media Director in monitoring trends and platform best practices
- Assist in flagging engagement opportunities
- Collaborate with other departments to source content ideas and gather materials for upcoming posts
- Help maintain brand consistency across all visual and video content
- Ability to work occasional evenings/weekends for events
Education and Skills:
- The ideal candidate has a relevant degree in communications, marketing, graphic design, film/video production, or related discipline and/or has a minimum of 1 year of relevant experience.
- Demonstrated experience creating content for social media platforms such as Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, Facebook, LinkedIn, Threads, and X (Twitter)
- Proficiency with graphic design and video editing tools such as Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere Pro, After Effects, and Canva
- Strong eye for visual storytelling, composition, and brand consistency
- Attention to detail, especially under tight content deadlines
- Experience producing, filming, or performing on camera a plus
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
