As an integral team member of the Communications Division, the Media Content Creator is responsible for assisting in the process of pitching, researching, editing, and producing written, graphic, and video content for a range of creative and technical purposes for the Arkansas Highway Commission and the Arkansas Department of Transportation (ARDOT) with an emphasis on social media.

The Department may require employees to perform functions beyond those contained in job descriptions. The Department may modify job descriptions based on Department needs. The Arkansas Department of Transportation is an "at will" employer.

  • Assist with creating, editing, and evaluating content for the Department’s various social media outlets including ARDOT, Arkansas Highway Police, and Keep Arkansas Beautiful.
  • Assist with researching and writing news releases, letters, speeches, and articles.
  • Assist with writing, shooting, and editing audio/video productions.
  • Monitor digital media outlets for industry topics and trends.
  • Assist in creating presentations for District Engineers and ARDOT leadership as needed.
  • Travel to worksites and locations statewide to assist with video shoots or scheduled events.

Minimum Requirements

Education and experience: The educational equivalent to a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in a field related to the area of responsibility OR the educational equivalent to a diploma from an accredited high school plus four years of related work experience.

Knowledge, skills and abilities: Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in both written and verbal formats. Ability to work quickly with frequently shifting priorities and deadlines. Strong writing capabilities and knowledge of AP Style. Attention to detail and knowledge of the appropriate tone and language for the situation. Results-oriented and driven to execute with a high level of accuracy in tight timeframes. Process-oriented and highly organized with the ability to help keep projects on track. Working knowledge of Meta Business Suite, Canva, Hootsuite, video editing software, and other relevant digital media platforms preferred. Ability to accurately and comprehensively plan, research, develop and assemble media plans. Knowledge of photography, videography and graphic design practices and techniques preferred. Ability to collaborate with staff across the Department. Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.

Working conditions: Office environment. Statewide overnight travel.

Licenses, registrations and certifications: Valid driver’s license.

This position does not require theoretical and practical application of highly specialized knowledge or a bachelor’s degree or higher in a directly related specific specialty; thus, this position is not eligible for H-1B visa sponsorship.
