The Role:
We are looking for a Head of Paid Media to lead the development and evolution of Gumtree's media strategy, capability and operating model, ensuring media investment delivers measurable brand, customer and commercial growth. The Head of Paid Media will be Gumtree's senior media subject matter expert, with accountability for media strategy, planning, investment, performance, measurement, agency partnerships and media-related technology within the Marketing and Brand function.
The role will connect Gumtree's brand and performance ambitions, creating an integrated, full-funnel approach that balances immediate business outcomes with longer-term demand and brand growth. Working across Marketing, Motors, Advertising, Product & Technology, Data, Analytics and Finance, the Head of Paid Media will also help bring together Gumtree's broader media capabilities. The role will oversee all media capability, building shared principles, identifying opportunities for greater collaboration and helping Gumtree maximise its collective media, audience, data, technology and industry capabilities.
What you'll do:
- Own the media vision and strategy — develop and lead the annual media investment framework across brand, acquisition, retention and category priorities
- Lead a best-in-class internal media function — establish clear processes, decision rights and a culture of accountability, curiosity and continuous improvement
- Lead integrated full-funnel media planning — connect brand and performance across paid search, social, programmatic and video at annual, quarterly and campaign levels
- Drive connected customer experiences — partner with Marketing, Product and Advertising teams across paid, owned and earned channels
- Develop new media revenue opportunities — identify, design and commercialise solutions for advertisers, vendors and external partners
- Define the media measurement framework — connect media performance to brand, customer and commercial outcomes through clear KPIs and attribution
- Own the media tech and data roadmap — leverage first-party data, AI and automation to improve planning, activation and operational efficiency
- Lead agency and partner governance — manage media agency relationships, commercial negotiations, and hold partners accountable for quality and outcomes
- Build a structured test-and-learn roadmap — across channels, formats, audiences, technology and measurement
What you'll bring: - 8+ years of senior media leadership experience across media, digital or performance marketing, ideally within a brand, agency, consultancy or technology platform environment
- Proven ability to develop and lead integrated, full-funnel brand and performance strategies across paid search, social, programmatic and video
- Experience transforming or building media teams, operating models and ways of working from the ground up
- Hands-on knowledge of Google Ads, GMP, Meta, DSPs, CDPs, attribution, MMM and incrementality measurement
- The ability to connect media decisions to business outcomes with a commercial and analytical mindset, able to challenge assumptions and turn complex data into clear recommendations
- Experience partnering with data, analytics, product, technology, finance and creative teams to deliver connected outcomes
- The ability to set expectations, evaluate performance, and constructively hold media agencies and external partners accountable
- The mindset to be future-focused and curious, with a strong interest in AI, automation, customer data strategy and privacy, and the ability to engage stakeholders from ELT to external agency partners
