Position Summary

MAGMA is seeking a creative, enthusiastic, and motivated Video Content Creator to capture compelling visual stories that showcase newcomer experiences, organizational programs, cultural events, and community initiatives. Working collaboratively with the Marketing and Communications Team, the successful candidate will support video production and visual storytelling efforts that enhance MAGMA's digital presence across social media, YouTube, websites, campaigns, and community engagement activities.

Core Position Responsibilities

Video Production & Content Capture

  • Assist with planning and filming video content for MAGMA's communications, marketing, and community engagement activities.
  • Capture interviews, testimonials, community stories, event footage, and authentic moments while working respectfully with newcomers, community members, staff, and participants.
  • Set up and operate cameras, tripods, microphones, lighting, and other video production equipment.
  • Apply video production techniques such as framing, composition, focus, lighting, camera movement, and audio recording.
  • Adapt filming techniques to different locations, environments, subjects, and event settings.
  • Capture footage suitable for social media, YouTube, websites, presentations, and other digital platforms.

Content Planning & Collaboration

  • Collaborate with the Marketing & Communications Team to understand project goals, key messages, and creative direction.
  • Participate in basic pre-production planning, including shot lists, interview setups, locations, and schedules.
  • Follow MAGMA's visual identity and brand guidelines while contributing creative ideas.
  • Assist with other communications and marketing-related projects as assigned.

File Management & Editing

  • Organize, label, transfer, and back up video files according to established processes.
  • Support basic video editing using Adobe Premiere Pro or similar editing software.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Experience creating video content through employment, volunteer work, school projects, internships, or personal projects.
  • Working knowledge of cameras, lighting, microphones, and basic video production equipment.
  • Knowledge of video production techniques including camera operation, composition, lighting, audio recording, and visual storytelling.
  • Demonstrated ability to capture interviews, events, stories, or other video content.
  • Basic video editing skills using Adobe Premiere Pro or similar editing software.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities, environments, and schedules.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and digital content platforms.
  • Portfolio, demo reel, or examples of video work are preferred. Samples may include school, volunteer, personal, or professional projects.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including occasional evenings and weekends.

Program Eligibility Requirements*

  • Must be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of employment.*
  • Must be a Canadian Citizen, Permanent Resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred and legally entitled to work in Canada.*
  • Must not be an international student on a study permit or the holder of a work permit.
  • Must have a satisfactory Criminal Record Check and Social Development Record Check.*
