Overview:
Project STEP is seeking a work-study student to specifically support our social media efforts. Ideally, this person would be a university, college, or conservatory student with an interest in or knowledge of music and the arts.
The student would come to BSO (Boston Symphony Orchestra) on Saturdays for approximately 2 hours to interview students and staff, take photographs and video, capture behind-the-scenes content, gather material for upcoming posts, and offer ideas for engaging content.
The work-study student would then spend approximately 5 hours per week,
either independently or at Project STEP during designated office hours, developing and scheduling social media content based on the material gathered. The remaining hours would be dedicated to another communications or development project aligned with the student’s skills and interests, as well as a weekly check-in with their Project STEP supervisor.
The anticipated commitment is approximately 8–10 hours per week.
Because this position involves an ongoing weekly responsibility and coordination with multiple staff members, reliability, punctuality, and consistent attendance are essential. The student must be able to commit to being in-person and on time for their scheduled Saturday hours and communicate proactively about any anticipated absences or scheduling conflicts.
We are looking for a creative, self-starting individual who is excited to take ownership of a social media calendar with guidance and support from three Project STEP staff members. The ideal candidate will be comfortable working independently, managing deadlines, following through on assignments, and contributing their own ideas. Deadline adherence, punctuality, responsiveness, and consistent communication are important requirements of this position.
Schedule:
Saturdays: Approximately 10:00 a.m.–12:00 p.m. (or similar), 2 hours
In-person attendance at BSO is required. Any anticipated days off or scheduling conflicts throughout the academic year should be identified in the student’s application whenever possible.
- Weekly Zoom check-in: 1 hour
- Monthly social media calendar meeting via Zoom: 1 hour
- Hybrid, from home or Project STEP offices: 5–7 hours
These hours will include social media content creation and scheduling, as well as one additional communications or development project aligned with the student’s skills and interests.
If the student elects to work in person at Project STEP, office hours are limited to times when staff are present: Saturdays from 9:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m. or Tuesdays from 10:00 a.m.–2:00 p.m.
Hourly Rate: 20.60
