Overview
The Office of Communications and Marketing is seeking a talented Social Media Specialist to join their team.
This position supports the development and execution of social media content and strategy for Auburn University's flagship social media accounts. This position helps ensure Auburn's social media presence reflects the university as a whole, maintaining a university-wide perspective across its colleges, departments and units while aligning content with Auburn's mission, strategic priorities and brand. The Social Media Specialist works closely with OCM team members to gather content, assists with maintaining the monthly content calendar and shares responsibility for monitoring and engaging with audiences across social media channels.
Responsibilities
- Supports the creation, scheduling and publishing of engaging content across Auburn University's flagship social media accounts, maintains the monthly content calendar and uses an enterprise social media management platform for social media operations.
- Gathers content, information and assets from OCM team members and maintains awareness of activities across Auburn's colleges, departments and units to help ensure the flagship accounts reflect the breadth of the university.
- Shares responsibility for monitoring Auburn's flagship social media accounts, including comments, direct messages, mentions and audience engagement, and identifies issues or conversations requiring escalation.
- Supports the integration and execution of social media content within university-wide marketing and communications initiatives to ensure consistent and strategic messaging.
- Tracks basic social media metrics (e.g., reach, engagement, follower growth) and contributes to routine performance reports.
- Stays current on social media trends, platform changes and industry best practices to identify relevant opportunities for Auburn's social media presence.
- Assists with social media advertising campaigns, including campaign setup, audience targeting, monitoring and performance analysis.
Qualifications
Level I:
- Bachelor's degree - with no specific discipline
Level II:
- Bachelor's degree - with no specific discipline and 2 years of experience in social media, communications, marketing, online content creation, digital event production, or digital media operations.
