JOB TITLE: Social Media Program Manager

LOCATION: History Center - 345 W Kellogg Blvd., St. Paul, MN 55102

COMPENSATION: Typical starting range $66,185.60 - $72,259.20 annually, commensurate with experience

STATUS & HOURS: Full-time, regular (approximately 2080 annual hours) position. Typical hours will be hybrid, with at least 2 days in the office per week, including Tuesdays; M-F 8am to 4pm or 9am to 5pm, with occasional work events outside standard hours.

BENEFITS: Eligible to participate in State Employee Group Insurance Program and a retirement program with employer contribution. Generous vacation and sick time accruals with additional paid holidays.

DESCRIPTION: The Minnesota Historical Society (MNHS) is hiring a Social Media Program Manager to administer and coordinate our network of social media accounts to drive awareness and attendance to our sites, museums, and programs and services, and to protect the MNHS brand through vibrant, engaging social media strategies and reputation management. This position is responsible for creating original content, monitoring channels, and engaging with and responding to followers. This position builds and protects our organizational image on our social media channels in a cohesive way to create meaningful engagement with history to cultivate curiosity and foster a more inclusive, empathetic, and informed society.

SUMMARY OF WORK: 1)Plan and create engaging content for the MNHS social media channels; 2)Implement and manage social media strategies across our statewide network of sites; 3)Provide brand protection and reputation management; 4)Support overall department objectives and services.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Journalism, or related field
  • Proven work experience as a social media manager
  • Four years of communications and/or media-related experience
  • Four years of experience writing and editing organizational communication (i.e., social media, web content, print content, etc.)
  • Ability to produce creative content (text, image, and video)
  • Proficient in Google Suite (Docs, Sheets, Slides) or Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, & PPT)
  • Proficient in Canva and/or Adobe Creative Cloud
  • Able to approach others with a different background in a tactful, respectful manner while exhibiting cultural sensitivity
  • Exhibit a positive attitude and the ability to work independently on projects, yet supportive of team dynamics and needs when necessary
  • PC competent and familiar with project management software (e.g Trello, Teamwork, Smartsheets, Basecamp, etc.)
  • Analytical and multitasking skills
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Ability and willingness to travel

Demonstrated Skills In Or Knowledge Of:

  • Use of analysis and inquisitive mindset using data to optimize marketing communications strategies and tactics
  • Solid knowledge of reach and engagement metrics
  • Demonstrated copywriting, editing, and proofreading skills, as well as the ability to adopt the style, tone, and voice of MNHS
  • Demonstrated story selection skills
  • Demonstrated interpersonal, oral, written, and interviewing skills
  • Demonstrated usage of social media management tools like Sprout Social, Hootsuite, or similar

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience and familiarity with marketing automation software is a plus (HubSpot, Marketing Cloud, Marketo, etc.)
  • Experience with some, or all, of these: Google Analytics, search engine optimization, email marketing, video production, website content management systems
