JOB TITLE: Social Media Manager, The Crest

LOCATION: St. Paul Campus

PAY RATE: $1,800 per school year

Job Summary:

The social media manager is primarily responsible for maintaining The Crest’s social media presence and developing strategic plans to promote The Crest content and engage audiences.

The social media manager reports to the creative director and faculty advisers.

Essential Functions:

  • Works with the editors/managers to identify potential social media opportunities and strategies that extend The Crest's ability to reach audience
  • Maintains The Crest’s social media presence, including posting daily updates (and sometimes multiple updates per day) to its social media accounts on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram
  • Posts content through Hootsuite and provides analytics as requested
  • Works with the editors/managers as needed to develop and maintain a strategic social media plan and policy that explain how The Crest and its staff members will use social media to reach various audiences
  • Keeps track of social media trends, including new topics and tools
  • Works with KUST Director, as needed, for cross-posting
  • Posts The Crest’s milestones on LinkedIn, works to find alumni on the platform
  • Works with the Web Director to maintain social media files that provide evidence and engagement data about when stories are re-tweeted, linked to, etc
  • Maintains regular communication with other personnel to help determine social media problems and opportunities
  • Completes other duties as assigned
  • Attends all Team Leader and staff meetings
  • Attends two 100-minute shifts per week
  • Conducts duties in accordance with the University Policy on Student Media

Qualifications

  • The applicant should have junior or senior standing, but others will be considered
  • Has completed relevant coursework or has previous experience relevant to the job
  • Has participated in student media and has demonstrated leadership
  • Is dynamic, personable, organized, and has a team orientation
  • Possesses problem-solving skills
  • Is responsive, reliable, flexible and possesses good judgment

Evaluation and Term of Hire

As pay is contingent on satisfactory performance, students should expect evaluations at mid- and semester's end.

This position is for the entire school year (both fall and spring semesters).

Eligibility

To be eligible for student employment, St. Thomas students must be degree seeking at the undergraduate, graduate and doctoral levels.
