Job Summary: The History Department Communications Committee and the Summersell Center for the Study of the South are searching for a Student Assistant. The Social Media Manager assists in the promotion and branding of the History Department and the Summersell Center. Controls the Summersell Center social media accounts (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram). Cross-promotes the History Department social accounts, and executes communications strategy goals to promote the initiatives within the Summersell Center. Attends events, takes photographs, creates posting schedules, conducts interviews, and spearheads media relations activities.

Required Minimum Qualifications: Current University of Alabama undergraduate student. Professional social media experience. Ability to promote events, classes and students. Experience planning and scheduling social media posts, creating graphics, editing/posting photos, and regulating content. Must attend functions, capture photos, and create writeups.

Skills and Knowledge: Excellent written/oral communication and time management skills. Ability to work independently.

Preferred Qualifications: Professional experience in media relations: pitching media, contacting media outlets to gain publicity, tracking media coverage, coordinating with journalists, and filming/editing videos. Knowledge of Adobe Creative is preferred.

Enrollment Requirements: Applicants must meet enrollment requirements to be eligible for on-campus student employment. Applicants must be enrolled in a UA degree program and meet minimum credit hour requirements during the academic year: Undergraduate Students must be registered for at least 6 credit hours during fall/spring semesters; Graduate Students must be registered for at least 4.5 credit hours during fall/spring semesters; International Students must be registered full-time (Undergraduate = 12 credit hours, Graduate = 9 credit hours) during fall/spring semesters. Enrollment requirements must be maintained for the duration of on-campus employment. Individual hiring departments and programs may also have additional eligibility requirements for employment.
