Social Media & Digital Content Student Assistant Specialist
The New SchoolWe are seeking an enthusiastic and creative student with extensive knowledge of social media, digital content creation, photo & video production, and graphic design. The Social Media & Digital Content Student Assistant Specialist will work in collaboration with the Brand, Marketing, and Communication team in the newly formed college integrating art, design, and the performing arts (encompassing Parsons School of Design, Mannes School of Music, the School of Jazz and Contemporary Music, and the School of Drama portfolios) to capture, write, edit, and produce photographic and video content for our college-wide communications platforms.
Responsibilities
- Aid in the drafting of weekly newsletters with events and notable items for the college community through the intake and researching of content suggestions and ideas
- Attend university events to capture photo and video content for social media and University platforms
- Utilize a strong, creative, and media-savvy skill set to aid in the production of social media content across college-wide social platforms, including Instagram, Twitter/X, Facebook, and LinkedIn.
- Shoot and edit photo and video content for use on social media, web, and program marketing platforms.
- Aid in the tracking and management of photo & video release forms
- Conduct interviews with students, alumni, and faculty for video content.
- Design graphic assets for social media, print flyers, websites, and newsletters.
- Write compelling, concise copy that follows marketing best practices and branding guidelines.
- Monitor social accounts, including tags, mentions, and direct messages, interacting with both the college community as well as broader external audiences (e.g. prospective students and their families, alumni, etc).
- Proactively research news items, events, and other content ideas for social media to promote and celebrate the Parsons, Mannes, Jazz, & Drama community.
- Abide by university guidelines outlining the responsible use of AI tools.
Qualifications
- Strong interest and fluency in social media, storytelling, and community building
- Photography and/or videography experience
- Graphic design experience (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, etc.)
- Knowledge of latest digital trends
- Copywriting and editing skills
- Available during office hours, with flexibility to occasionally attend evening events
- Strong communicator and team player; responsive to feedback
- Enthusiastic, proactive, and ability to work independently
- Skilled at executing multiple projects simultaneously with efficient time management and without sacrificing exceptional attention to detail
- Appreciation for arts, design, student life, and higher education
- Knowledge of Parsons and Performing Arts programs is a plus
- Comfortable on camera a plus
- Background in digital media, marketing, journalism, or communications a plus
- High level of professional discretion
Work Mode: Hybrid/Split - Employees hired for this position have regularly scheduled, consistent percentage of time on campus (ex 1-4x/week) and also work some of the time remotely. #LI-DNI
Hourly Rate: $17-$21 / hour
