In the faithful pursuit of this mission, St. Mary's Church in Landover Hills is seeking a part-time Communication and Social Media Coordinator to strengthen our parish and school's digital presence, support clear and mission-driven communication, and foster deeper engagement with our families, parishioners, and the wider community.
The Communication and Social Media Coordinator reports to the Pastor and under his vision this role blends creativity, pastoral sensitivity, and strategic communication. The coordinator will manage social media, assist with internal and external messaging, and help ensure that the joyful mission of St. Mary's is communicated beautifully and consistently across all platforms.
Duties and Responsibilities
Digital & Social Media
- Manage and update parish and school social media accounts (Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, etc.)
- Create engaging content that reflects Catholic identity, parish life, school activities, and upcoming events.
- Capture photos and short videos at parish and school events when needed.
- Monitor messages, comments, and online conversations; respond or route inquiries appropriately.
- Maintain a consistent brand voice rooted in hospitality, faith, and community.
- Maintain and update the Parish website.
Coordination & Collaboration
- Work closely with the pastor, principal, staff, and ministry leaders to gather information and promote activities.
- Maintain communication calendars for both parish and school.
- Assist with promotional materials for parish events, fundraisers, and school programs.
- Ensure communication reflects the values and teachings of the Catholic Church.
Analytics & Strategy
- Track engagement metrics and provide simple monthly reports.
- Recommend improvements to strengthen reach, clarity, and community engagement.
- Stay current with digital communication trends relevant to parish and school life.
- Support communication needs for major liturgical seasons, sacramental preparation, and school initiatives.
- Assist with bulletin content coordination (not layout), ensuring timely and accurate information.
Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Faithful to the Catholic Church and teachings
- Strong writing and editing skills with an ability to communicate in a warm, pastoral tone.
- Familiarity with Catholic parish life and comfort communicating within a faith-based environment.
- Ability to create basic graphics and short videos (Canva or similar tools).
- Organized, reliable, and able to manage multiple priorities.
- Comfortable working independently and collaboratively.
- Photography or videography experience is a plus.
- Joyful communicator with a heart for evangelization.
- Respectful of Catholic teaching and parish culture.
- Creative, flexible, and attentive to detail.
- Able to represent St. Mary's with professionalism, warmth, and faith.
Work Environment
This job operates in an office setting. This role routinely uses standard office equipment (computers, phones, copiers and filing cabinets)
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
- Part time role - 19 hours per week
- Salary - $15.00 per hour
- Some weekend or evening hours are required for major parish or school events.
