Democratic Socialists of America is the largest socialist organization in the United States, with over 125,000 members and chapters across the country. We believe that working people should run both the economy and society democratically to meet human needs, not to make profits for a few. We are a political and activist organization, not a party. Through community and campus-based chapters, DSA members use a variety of tactics, from legislative to direct action, to fight for reforms that empower working people. DSA is a big tent, multi-tendency organization that welcomes everyone committed to democratic socialism.

Responsibilities

  • Work with Comms Director to carry out the organization’s national comms strategy with a focus on social media
  • Work with national committees to manage and calendar social media content for the organization on Instagram, Twitter, YouTube, Bluesky, Facebook, and Twitch
  • Post approved social media posts, statements, and other external messaging as requested by Comms Director and DSA National leaders
  • Create and schedule monthly social media content memo for chapters, provide chapters with social media strategy support, and recruit content from chapters for social media
  • Maintain and update DSA’s calendar and Linktree
  • Use tech tools to support DSA work and campaigns and convert online support to action
  • Support live-streaming and tech on mass calls and create clips for social media
  • Own DSA’s content creator program, including coordinating with creators on-site at national events
  • Perform other duties which may arise based on the needs of the organization

Qualifications

  • At least 3 years in a position in comms, preferably with a left organization or union and on a national level
  • Experience coordinating social media at a professional level and delivering on deadline
  • Demonstrated knowledge, experience and self-motivation working on a comprehensive comms strategy with staff and volunteers or members
  • Ability to work effectively with member leaders from varying political viewpoints underneath DSA’s big tent
  • Creativity to produce exciting and interesting content and ability to propose thoughtful and unique communication strategies and projects to national leadership
  • Ability to thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment with a non-traditional leadership structure, adapting to changing political conditions and organizational needs
  • High level of accountability, responsibility, and dependability
  • Experience writing and pitching media advisories and press releases
  • Ability to travel on occasion
  • Commitment to democratic socialist, feminist, anti-racist, anti-ableist, anti-heterosexist and pro-worker action, and identify as a socialist and be grounded in democratic socialist politics; general agreement with the positions and perspectives of DSA
  • Multilingual candidates encouraged, especially Spanish
  • Experience working in a membership-led organization and/or with member leaders that direct the work (preferred)

Reports to: Communications Director

Work Schedule: Full-time

Location: Remote

Salary: $65,500

Benefits: Union position. We offer employer paid medical, dental, and vision insurance for employees and their spouse/partner and/or dependent children, and three weeks of vacation in the first year of employment, then four weeks each year thereafter. Employer contribution equivalent to 1% of wage to a 401k.
