Position Summary
VM West, LLC is seeking a creative, organized, and motivated Social Media Coordinator to support the execution of the company’s social media and digital content strategy.
Working under the direction of the Marketing and Communications Manager, this position is responsible for executing VM West’s established social media strategy, managing the day-to-day content calendar, developing content around established content pillars, and ensuring social media messaging remains professional, consistent, and aligned with the company’s values, brand standards, and business goals.
The Social Media Coordinator will help bring VM West’s story to life by developing engaging content around the company’s people, projects, capabilities, expertise, culture, and community involvement. Audiences include current and prospective employees, customers, government agencies, utilities, industry partners, and the communities VM West serves.
This position combines social media management, copywriting, content development, content curation, graphic design, community management, and performance reporting. Photography and video content will be developed collaboratively with and managed under the direction of the Marketing and Communications Manager.
Essential Job Functions
Social Media Strategy and Execution
- Execute VM West’s social media strategy across key platforms.
- Manage the content calendar, including planning, scheduling, publishing, and monitoring.
- Create content aligned with established content pillars, content calendar, and company goals.
- Collaborate with the Marketing and Communications Manager on campaigns, recruiting, events, and content priorities.
- Identify engaging opportunities including employee stories, project highlights, and industry topics.
- Maintain consistent brand messaging, voice, tone, and visual standards.
Content Pillars and Brand Storytelling
- Industry Expertise: Educate audiences about vegetation management, forestry, fuels mitigation, wildland fire support, safety, equipment, and responsible land management.
- Projects and Capabilities: Highlight projects, equipment, field operations, capabilities, expertise, and project outcomes.
- People and Culture: Showcase employees, crews, training, achievements, career development, and company culture.
- Recruiting and Careers: Promote job opportunities and provide an authentic look at careers and working at VM West.
- Community Engagement: Highlight sponsorships, partnerships, events, and community involvement.
- B2B and Industry: Build credibility and awareness among utilities, government agencies, contractors, industry partners, and prospective customers.
Content Creation and Curation
- Collaborate with the Marketing and Communications Manager on photography, video, and visual content needs.
- Assist with capturing and curating approved photography and video from projects, events, training, employees, and field operations.
- Create graphics, short form videos, Reels, employee spotlights, project highlights, recruiting content, and company updates.
- Write professional, engaging, and accurate social media copy that makes technical information accessible to target audiences.
- Coordinate with employees and subject matter experts to gather information and content.
- Organize and maintain approved digital marketing assets.
Brand Messaging and Standards
- Follow established brand strategy, messaging, voice, tone, and creative direction.
- Maintain accuracy and professionalism when communicating about projects, employees, customers, partners, and company capabilities.
- Use appropriate judgment when communicating about wildfires, emergency response, government projects, active operations, and sensitive topics.
- Follow established content review and approval processes.
Recruiting and Employer Branding
- Collaborate with Marketing and Human Resources to promote job openings and recruiting initiatives.
- Create content highlighting careers, employees, training, advancement, company culture, and field operations.
- Support organic and paid social media recruiting campaigns.
Social Media and Community Management
- Schedule, publish, and monitor approved social media content.
- Monitor and appropriately respond to comments, messages, mentions, tags, and audience interactions.
- Identify opportunities to engage with customers, government agencies, industry organizations, partners, and communities.
- Stay informed about relevant industry trends, platform updates, and social media best practices.
Analytics and Reporting
- Track key performance metrics, including reach, engagement, follower growth, video performance, website traffic, recruiting activity, and campaign results.
- Prepare regular performance reports for the Marketing and Communications Manager.
- Use performance data to recommend improvements to content, formats, posting schedules, and audience engagement.
QualificationsQualifications
- 2+ years of experience in social media, marketing, communications, content creation, or a related field preferred.
- Experience executing social media strategies, content calendars, and content pillars.
- Strong writing, editing, proofreading, and storytelling skills.
- Experience managing business social media accounts, including Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, and YouTube.
- Experience creating graphics, short form video, and digital content.
- Working knowledge of photography and videography for social media.
- Experience with Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, CapCut, Meta Business Suite, or similar tools preferred.
- Strong organizational, time management, and attention to detail skills.
- Ability to work independently while following established strategic and creative direction.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with Marketing Manager, field operations, Human Resources, administration, leadership, and other departments.
- Willingness to travel to project sites, company events, and field operations as needed.
- Industry experience in vegetation management, forestry, utilities, logging, wildland fire, construction, or related fields is a plus.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate is creative, organized, dependable, and understands how social media strategy, storytelling, brand standards, and performance work together.
They can take an established strategy and turn it into professional, engaging content while managing a content calendar, creating social media assets, supporting field content collection, and evaluating performance.
Experience in vegetation management or forestry is not required, but the candidate should be eager to learn VM West’s industry and accurately communicate the company’s work, people, expertise, and values.
Work Environment
This position includes office work and occasional field content collection. Field assignments may involve travel, uneven terrain, active equipment, outdoor conditions, and changing weather.
All VM West safety requirements and appropriate personal protective equipment must be followed while visiting active project sites.
