About Good Good Good

Good Good Good is an independent media company on a mission to help people feel hopeful and do good. Our team of journalists covers meaningful good news — via our website (goodgoodgood.co), social media accounts (@goodgoodgoodco), and the Goodnewspaper, our monthly print newspaper. We reject toxic positivity, and instead focus on the people, ideas, and movements making meaningful progress toward a better world.

Our work reaches tens of millions of people each month — and our community tells us again and again how much our stories mean to them. The New York Times, Washington Post, Mashable, and others have covered Good Good Good. Our Instagram is followed by world leaders and celebrities. Our impact and reach have scaled a lot since we launched in 2017. But, we’re fully bootstrapped — no venture capital, no outside investors, no billionaire owners. Our revenue comes from our readers and our subscribers, and we’re proud of that. We’re building something to last, and we care about impact, trust, and sustainable long-term growth.

Although our audience is large, our team is intentionally small. We operate as a startup — moving quickly, constantly testing new things, taking ownership, and figuring out how to meet the moment … all while staying true to our values. Everyone on our team has the opportunity to make a meaningful impact across different departments and shape the future of the company, regardless of title.

Why join Good Good Good

  • Join a small, high-impact team that reaches tens of millions of people every month
  • Help write the playbook for how independent news succeeds in a challenging era for media, alongside a team that’s growing despite it
  • Work directly with company leadership and have a meaningful voice in how we grow
  • Build your career in an environment that values ownership and curiosity, and rewards people who step up, solve problems, and make an impact

The role

Good Good Good is looking for a social media content producer with experience in journalism to help build and maintain our social media presence across Good Good Good’s accounts. This is an entry-level position at a fast-paced independent news startup that’s shaping what good news looks like online. You’ll have a critical role in interrupting someone’s doomscrolling with a news headline that’s actually hopeful for a change.

You’ll work directly with our Social Media Editor to curate, plan, write, and design content in alignment with Good Good Good’s voice, brand, and point of view — with zero AI involved in the writing and design. You’ll help dive into analytics and report on successes to develop and adapt our content strategy.

What this role looks like week to week

  • 75% of your time will be spent curating, writing, and editing news headlines and story summaries, and sourcing images
  • 15% of your time will be spent researching good news story ideas
  • 10% of your time will be spent tracking and reporting content performance

We post good news stories on social media at volume. You’d curate, research, write, edit, design, and post as many as 10 posts per day across multiple platforms. This high-volume approach isn’t the best fit for every content producer. So much good news exists in the world, but it’s hard for our audience to find on their own. We deliver it in a place they already spend a lot of time, with our signature voice, style, clarity, accuracy, and nuance — and we do it quickly. We want to be the first ones to tell someone something good has happened in the world — and give them the tools to tell their friends and followers about it, too.

What you’ll do

Writing, editing, and graphic design

  • Curate news stories and write journalistic headlines and story summaries
  • Adapt written content into graphic designs for social media platforms
  • Monitor current events for content opportunities in alignment with the Good Good Good voice and ethos
  • Adhere to Good Good Good brand standards
  • Assist in monitoring DMs, stories, and reviews to build relationships with both our audience and current/future customers

Growth and performance

  • Assist in tracking and reporting on social media KPIs
  • Discover and communicate trending stories with other journalists at Good Good Good

What we’re looking for

  • Proven experience in social media
  • Proven experience in digital journalism
  • A passion for journalistic integrity and accuracy
  • A dedication to Good Good Good’s journalistic mission
  • Strong written communication skills and editorial judgement (you’re comfortable editing content to fit a design template!)
  • A keen eye for graphic design that is both aesthetic and effective
  • A basic understanding of mainstream and emerging social media channels (you love outsmarting an algorithm)
  • Comfort covering social issues, human rights, climate, and politics with nuance and care, and the curiosity to keep learning
  • The ability to explain complex subjects to a general audience. You can go deep on a topic you didn’t know last month and come out with something clear

Bonus points for:

  • Video editing skills
  • Prior brand and/or graphic design experience
  • Prior newsroom experience
  • Knowledge of AP Style

You’ll probably love this job if

  • You want values-driven work that genuinely makes a difference
  • You’ve seen posts go viral and figured out exactly why (and how to do it again!)
  • You have favorite creators who have a clear POV and audience
  • You’ve gotten into arguments about em dashes and the Oxford comma (and you’re mad that people now associate good grammar with using AI)
  • You can tell who made a social media post before you even see their account (brand standards are your holy grail)
  • You’re heartbroken by bad news, but are even more motivated to find and amplify solutions
  • You really wish people would read past the headline a bit more
  • You see the downsides of social media, but know it can do a lot of good, too
  • You’re the resident optimist of your friend group
  • You’ve already noticed spelling errors or formatting inconsistencies in this job description
  • You want to get good news right, because a lot of people get it wrong

This might not be the right fit if:

  • You want to spend days developing long-form content
  • You want a lot of leeway to stretch your graphic design skills (we focus on clear design that we already know is effective)
  • You get hung up on the imperfections of a solution to a problem
  • The comment section can derail your day
  • You’d rather not pay attention to the news

  • Salary: $60k a year
  • Location: Fully remote (USA)
