Job Description
The Social Media & Communications Coordinator plays a key role in advancing Community Advocates’ mission by supporting the development and execution of responsive, engaging, and timely communications. This position works closely with the Grants and Communications Director and Chief Advancement Officer to maintain and grow the organization’s visibility and digital presence across Community Advocates (CA), the Milwaukee Women’s Center (MWC), and the Public Policy Institute (PPI).
This role is responsible for managing social media platforms, supporting content creation across multiple channels, and ensuring consistent messaging aligned with the organization’s brand and communications calendar and strategy. The ideal candidate is creative, detail-oriented, and passionate about storytelling and community impact.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Content Creation & Storytelling
- Capture photos, videos, and notes at internal meetings and external community events to develop compelling social media, blog, and newsletter content
- Write and produce content that highlights program impact, participant stories, and organizational initiatives
- Ensure content is culturally informed, strengths-based, and aligned with organizational values
Social Media Management
- Develop, schedule, and publish content across multiple platforms (e.g., Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube)
- Create engaging posts that increase audience growth, interaction, and engagement based on audience
- Monitor social media channels, respond to comments/messages as appropriate, and track trends
Communications & Marketing Materials
- Design and develop project- and event-specific materials such as flyers, registration forms, impact reports, and digital promotions
- Maintain consistency with organizational brand guidelines across all materials
- Collaborate with program staff to translate complex information into accessible, audience-friendly messaging
Newsletter & Website Management
- Support the production of e-newsletters, including writing, editing, formatting, and distribution
- Update and maintain multiple organizational websites (CA, MWC, PPI) in collaboration with the Grants and Communications Director
- Ensure website content is current, accurate, and engaging
Outreach & Community Engagement
- Attend community events and outreach opportunities to represent the organization and gather content
- Develop and distribute materials that promote CA, MWC, and PPI programs and initiatives
- Support efforts to expand visibility and strengthen community awareness
Communications Planning & Coordination
- Maintain and implement a communications calendar to coordinate campaigns, events, and content across platforms
- Ensure timely and strategic alignment of messaging across departments and initiatives per agency brand guide.
Data & Analytics
- Track, analyze, and report on social media performance, audience demographics, and engagement metrics
- Use data insights to refine content strategy and improve reach and impact
Fundraising & Advancement Support
- Support fundraising efforts through communications, including donor appeals, grant support materials, and event promotion
- Assist with Advancement Team and agency events, including planning, promotion, online registration processes and on-site support
Multimedia & Digital Content
- Assist with updating and maintaining video content across websites and YouTube
- Support basic video editing and digital storytelling initiatives

Skills & Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, journalism, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to tailor messaging for diverse audiences
- Excellent organizational, time management, and multitasking skills
- Ability to work independently with limited supervision while managing multiple priorities
- High attention to detail and strong problem-solving abilities
- Valid driver’s license and insurance and reliable transportation (mileage reimbursement will be provided)
Preferred
- Experience managing social media accounts for an organization or brand
- Familiarity with Canva or similar graphic design tools
- Basic knowledge of website management platforms (e.g., WordPress or similar)
- Experience with email marketing platforms (e.g., QGiv, Boomerang, Constant Contact)
- Fluency in Spanish
- Experience working in nonprofit, human services, or community-based settings

Work Environment: Located in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Work is on-site with limited remote and hybrid flexibility). Work primarily takes place during daytime, with occasional night and weekend meetings and events.

Physical Requirements

Compensation
Up to $50,000 yearly (paid bi-weekly as earned)
