The University of the Fraser Valley Student Union Society (SUS) is a BC Not-For-Profit Society representing and serving UFV students. The Society manages the Student Union Building and facilitates services such as the UFV U-PASS, food services, and the student health and dental plan. SUS also provides support to an active community by organizing events, overseeing clubs and associations, and providing wellness and developmental programming. As the official representative body of UFV students, our mission is to be an inclusive community that provides high-quality, accessible programs and services. Position: Social Media Assistant

Work Schedule: Part-Time, Monday to Friday (15–20 hours per week)

Salary: $19.25 per hour

Duration: September to December 2026, with the possibility of extension

Reporting to: Marketing & Communications Manager

Position Description

The Social Media Assistant supports the day-to-day delivery of social media content for the UFV Student Union Society, helping promote SUS services, events, campaigns, student engagement initiatives, and campus life.

Working closely with the Marketing & Communications team, the Social Media Assistant creates engaging, timely, and student-focused content across SUS digital platforms. The role also provides social media support for the SUS Executive team and Fair Grounds, helping ensure consistent, professional, and engaging communication across the organization.

This position is well suited to someone with strong social media instincts, excellent communication skills, and an interest in creating content that connects with UFV students.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Create and schedule engaging social media content across platforms including Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, and other relevant channels.

  • Support the development and implementation of social media content calendars.
  • Create written, graphic, photo, and short-form video content that aligns with SUS branding and communications priorities.
  • Support social media content for SUS Executives, including initiatives, events, advocacy, updates, and student engagement activities.
  • Support Fair Grounds social media by promoting products, specials, events, services, and other relevant content.
  • Promote SUS services, programs, events, campaigns, Clubs and Associations, and other opportunities available to students.
  • Attend SUS activities and events as required to capture timely photo, video, and social media content.
  • Develop content from initial concepts and storyboarding through filming, editing, captioning, and posting.
  • Create accessible and inclusive content appropriate for a diverse student audience.
  • Monitor social media accounts and respond to or appropriately redirect comments, messages, and inquiries.
  • Help maintain a positive, welcoming, and professional online presence for SUS.
  • Monitor social media trends and identify opportunities for timely and relevant content.
  • Review basic social media analytics and use performance information to help improve future content.
  • Maintain organized digital content, files, schedules, and shared assets.
  • Assist with other marketing and communications projects as required.

Qualifications and Experience

• Experience creating content for social media platforms such as Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, LinkedIn, or similar platforms.

  • Strong written communication skills and an ability to adapt content for a student audience.
  • Experience creating short-form video, photography, graphics, or other digital content.
  • Familiarity with tools such as Canva, Adobe Creative Cloud, CapCut, or comparable content creation software is an asset.
  • An understanding of social media trends, platform best practices, and audience engagement.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
  • Ability to take direction, respond to feedback, and contribute creative ideas.
  • Strong attention to detail and an ability to maintain consistent branding and messaging.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Previous social media, marketing, communications, or related experience is an asset.
  • Post-secondary education or training in marketing, communications, social media, digital media, or a related field is an asset but is not required.

Additional Information

This is a part-time position of approximately 15–20 hours per week. The weekly schedule will be established in advance with the Marketing & Communications Manager and can, within operational requirements, accommodate an academic schedule where applicable.

The initial term is expected to run from September to December 2026, with the possibility of continued part-time employment during the Winter Semester based on organizational needs and performance.
