Job Scope & Purpose
The Senior Copywriter works within an assigned group and contributes to the development of program strategies and creates communication solutions that are creatively compelling, on strategy, and motivate desired consumer behavior.
Main Responsibilities
Regularly attends and participates fully in briefs, product group meetings, and client presentations; attends client briefs and research sessions as needed
Participates in the development of program strategies along with the group creative director and Client Service team members
Collaborates fully with art director and production to translate marketing strategies into innovative, viable, and benefit-oriented creative concepts and formats
Meets with the group creative director, along with art director, to discuss concepts and creative strategy, ensuring that they deliver against the objectives
Works with the library, researchers, or interview subjects as the project demands
Synthesizes key project information and applies the resulting knowledge in developing effective and imaginative copy concepts that support the project’s objectives
Presents layouts of concepts to the Client Service team and then to client for discussion and approval, compellingly and with an authoritative manner
Supports creative concepts by providing verbal and written rationales as requested
Writes economically, including a complete, benefit-oriented selling message without extraneous embellishments
Examines copy consistently throughout a project to ensure it is cohesive, including proofing mechanics and film proofs
Oversees the copy “concept” and the work of any contributing juniors throughout a project to ensure it is executed cohesively
Estimates and adheres to personal creative time
Champions the client’s cause while balancing it with Targetbase’s objectives
Contributes to building a positive agency culture, building positive working relationships with internal teams, other departments, and clients
Uses excellent writing and conceptual abilities to consistently develop work that is strategically sound and portfolio-worthy
Works with Client Service, Technology, and/or Strategic Business Analysis to develop solutions and plays a role in building strong client relationships
Uses strong presentation skills for presentations with internal team and client
Ensures high-quality deliverables by following established processes; copy shows grasp of subject matter and technical proficiency
Acts as a “buddy”/mentor for less senior Creative team members
Provides/innovates new processes, channels, and creative technologies

Ensures high-quality deliverables by following established processes. Thorough and comprehensive review of all work through every phase of the project. Copy and content changes/errors/omissions are clearly and effectively communicated. Ensures brand consistency.
Team and/or client feedback and satisfaction: Builds strong relationships with internal team. Contributes consistently by delivering work that meets the needs of the project. Receives unsolicited, positive feedback from team.
Commitment to vision and guiding principles of agency and competency: Number one focus is on quality and ensuring that quality is achieved at every stage of the project
Organizational and/or technical knowledge: Has appropriate knowledge of his/her core competency and Targetbase’s integrated service offerings. Maintains proficiency in copywriting and editing techniques.
Experience & Education
5+ years of agency experience in copywriting
Knowledge of Pharma/Life Sciences required
Exposure to Oncology, Immunology, Rheumatology and/or Infectious Disease therapeutic areas preferred
Strong track record of applying strong strategic knowledge of customer journey and DTC marketing
Bachelor’s Degree in English, Journalism, or Marketing Communications or diploma from copywriting program is an asset
Knowledge & Ability
Recognized expertise in print/digital/mobile concepting and copywriting
Solid knowledge of steps required in creative development process: providing guidance to achieve creative direction; offering timely and helpful coaching; producing all work in a timely, cost-effective manner
Able to be an effective team player
Proficient in the Microsoft Office Suite; knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite is a plus
Command of both literate and colloquial English
Demonstrated ability to rationalize, judge, and organize ideas, solving problems using keen instincts and organizational experience
Solid presentation skills
Strong brainstorming acumen and ability to lead ideation
Able to mentor and demonstrate team-building skills
Position Requirements
Overtime as necessary
Some travel will be required
Conceptual portfolio that demonstrates strong copywriting prowess and innovative thinking
We work a hybrid schedule - 3 days in office and 2 days working from home. Candidates must local to the DFW area and willing to be onsite in the Irving office 3 days per week.
