Job Description

Job summary:

As a Social Media Content Assistant for University Communications, students will be part of a team planning and creating content for flagship University of Richmond social media channels (focusing on TikTok, YouTube, and Instagram). Student employees create weekly series-based social media videos to support university-wide messaging priorities and answer key questions from prospective students. This job requires a keen awareness of engaging social media content and video editing skills, a strong presence on camera, and a high level of accountability. Students can expect at least 4 hours/week with one set 2-hour in-office shift per week and 2 flexible hours spent filming per week, with a cap of 6 hours per week.

Roles and responsibilites:

  • Work one 2-hour in-office shift per week and spend at least 2 hours filming in the field per week

Create 1 social video per week, based on key series

  • ex: Did you know UR…, My research in 60 seconds, Come with me to…, etc
  • These videos could include human interest stories based on faculty or student interviews, attending events, and/or spotlighting elements of campus life
  • Capture and submit 3-5 b-roll (short video) clips per week for use in future projects
  • Collaborate with University Communications staff and/or other students to create social content
  • Stay up to date with new trends and best practices on social media

Qualifications:

  • Ability to innovate and think creatively
  • Strong on-camera presence and personality
  • Strong video editing skills and a keen eye for creating dynamic hooks
  • Experience in creating engaging content for social media
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with strict attention to detail
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and demonstrate strong judgment
  • Superior organizational skills with ability to meet all deadlines
  • Ability to work independently, think critically, and solve problems
  • Eagerness to learn new things and develop social media skills in an ever-changing environment
  • Ability to work independently and with a team
  • Ability to interact with all levels of students, staff, faculty, and community
  • Experience with and/or desire to learn various software programs, equipment, or tools necessary to perform job – ex: TikTok, Instagram, CapCut (or similar) Canva, Sprout Social, etc.

Pay Grade: SP Student 3, starting at $14.45
