About the role

Exciting opportunity to lead social media for one of Australia’s largest education systems and help shape how more than 2,200 NSW public schools connect with parents, students and communities.

You will lead the department’s social media strategy across major channels including Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn, while driving our expansion into emerging platforms such as TikTok. The role combines strategy, governance, content performance, community management and practical support for schools.

In this role, you will:

  • Lead the department’s social media strategy, governance and policy settings
  • Manage and optimise major department social media channels reaching hundreds of thousands of followers across NSW
  • Drive the department’s expansion into emerging platforms, including TikTok
  • Provide advice to schools and department staff on social media policy, account management and appropriate use of social media
  • Support schools with account setup, moderation, community management and harmful content removal
  • Lead training, workshops and resources that build social media capability across NSW public schools
  • Use insights, data and platform trends to improve content performance and audience engagement.

About you

We are looking for a strategic and hands-on social media leader who understands how to build strong, trusted and engaging digital communities.

You will bring sound judgement, creativity and confidence working across complex stakeholder environments. You know how to balance audience growth and engagement with policy, reputation, safety and risk.

You will be someone who can:

  • lead social media strategy across large or complex organisations
  • translate platform trends and audience insights into practical content and channel decisions
  • provide clear advice on social media risks, moderation and community management
  • support teams and stakeholders to use social media safely and effectively
  • develop training, guidance and resources that build capability
  • bring a strong understanding of contemporary social platforms, including video-first and emerging channels
  • work calmly and decisively in sensitive, high-profile or fast-moving social media environments
  • demonstrate sound judgement and a commitment to the value of public education.
  • Knowledge of and commitment to implementing the Department’s Aboriginal Education Policy and upholding the Department’s Partnership Agreement with the NSW AECG and to ensure quality outcomes for Aboriginal people.

Essential requirements of the role

  • Current and valid Working with Children Check (WWCC) Clearance for paid employment
  • Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to the value of public education.
