Reporting directly to the Vice President of Strategic Communication and Marketing, the Director of Social Media serves as the primary strategist, content director, and operational lead for official Broward College social channels. This role drives multi-platform social strategy, organic storytelling, short-form video oversight, social listening, executive digital positioning, and student brand ambassador programs. The Director balances high-level digital strategy and campaign direction with active, grassroots connections across campus locations, student organizations, and institutional events to direct authentic campus storytelling and engage diverse audiences.

Minimum Education & Experience

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Digital Media, Journalism, Public Relations, or a related field required.
  • Experience: Minimum of 3 years of progressive experience leading social media strategy, digital campaign execution, and audience growth within a corporate, agency, or institutional setting, with demonstrated supervisory or project leadership capabilities. (An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.)
  • Higher Education Requirement: Direct professional experience managing social media in higher education, agency experience managing education/consumer brand clients, OR demonstrated experience leading social content execution on behalf of an academic institution, department, or student organization.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Agency or Multi-Account Background: Experience in a fast-paced agency or multi-brand environment, with a strong portfolio demonstrating dynamic content direction, campaign strategy, and trend adaptation.
  • South Florida Higher Ed Context: Familiarity with the South Florida higher education landscape, regional culture, student demographics, and campus community dynamics.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities

  • Grassroots Campus Engagement & Event Direction: Serves as the strategic 'eyes and ears' on campus, cultivating close relationships with campus deans, student life leaders, and faculty. Maintains an active presence at key campus events, graduations, workshops, and student gatherings to identify story opportunities, capture key moments, and direct real-time coverage that brings the authentic Broward College experience to life.
  • Integrated Strategy & Cross-Functional Alignment: Collaborates proactively across the full Marketing & Communications team—partnering with Communications/PR, Paid Performance Marketing, Digital Web, and Admissions/Enrollment. Evaluates narrative assets to determine optimal channel distribution, ensuring organic social content supports lower-funnel enrollment drivers, PR announcements, and major college initiatives.
  • Social Media Strategy & Audience Targeting: Formulates and executes a cohesive multi-channel social media roadmap (Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube, X, Facebook, Threads, etc.). Demonstrates proven ability to match the right content with the right audience and the right channel, providing strategic direction and visual oversight for short-form video (Instagram Reels, YouTube Shorts, etc.) and tailored multi-channel campaign assets.
  • KPIs, Benchmarking & Analytics Reporting: Establishes channel-specific KPIs, benchmarks, and performance metrics across all social platforms. Continuously measures performance, conducts audience insights analysis, and reports out to leadership on a regular basis to optimize strategy and demonstrate ROI.
  • Student Ambassador & Talent Recruitment: Builds, leads, and mentors a structured Student Ambassador program—actively recruiting and empowering passionate student social media creators, campus leaders, student influencers, and digital talent to produce authentic, relatable peer-to-peer content that drives prospective student recruitment and peer engagement.
  • Executive Digital Positioning: Oversees executive digital strategy and social media presence for the Office of the President and senior leadership, aligning messaging with overarching communications priorities and institutional brand voice.
  • Social Listening, Moderation & Crisis Response: Monitors social conversations surrounding Broward College in real-time. Manages community moderation, tracks audience sentiment, identifies emerging trends, and coordinates closely with Communications/PR on risk mitigation and crisis messaging.
  • Governance & Operations Management: Establishes college-wide social media guidelines, brand toolkits, and best practices for campus sub-accounts. Directly manages team members, student creators, and external agency partners/vendors to ensure cohesive brand standards and budget efficiency.

  • Integrated Channel Matrix & Audience Matching: Ability to think holistically across an integrated marketing and communications team, recognizing how narrative assets transition between channels and tailoring content specifically for target demographics.
  • KPI Tracking & Analytics Mastery: Expertise in setting channel benchmarks, measuring social KPIs, leveraging analytics dashboards, and producing actionable performance reports for leadership.
  • Platform & Strategic Mastery: Deep understanding of social media algorithms, digital campaign trends, video production strategy, and performance analytics.
  • Crisis & Brand Composure: Proven ability to operate calmly under pressure, exercising sound judgment and emotional intelligence when handling sensitive commentary or urgent digital cycles.
  • Team & Creator Coaching: Demonstrated supervisory ability to recruit and mentor student ambassadors/influencers, lead team members, and direct external agency/vendor deliverables.
