General Description:

As the Digital Marketing Intern, you will lead M Food Co.'s student-facing digital storytelling lane by creating engaging content that highlights the student dining experience across residential dining halls, retail locations, meal plan promotions, catering, and special events.

Rather than serving as general marketing support, this role owns M Food Co.'s digital content pipeline with support from the Marketing Team, from capturing photos and videos to supporting social media, email marketing, and campaign reporting. Working closely with the Director of Marketing & Communications and the Marketing & Sustainability Manager, you'll help transform everyday dining experiences into compelling content that connects with University of Minnesota students.

You'll also play an important role in measuring the success of marketing efforts by helping track engagement, compiling campaign results, and creating recap reports that inform future strategies.

This internship is ideal for students interested in digital marketing, social media, communications, photography, videography, content creation, or brand marketing.

Requirements:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Comfortable photographing and filming students, food, and events
  • Familiarity with Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, LinkedIn, and emerging social media platforms
  • Understanding of current social media trends and digital storytelling
  • Basic experience with Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, CapCut, or similar creative software preferred
  • Ability to work independently while managing multiple projects
  • Comfortable appearing on camera when needed
  • Photography and/or videography experience is preferred but not required

Primary Job Responsibilities:

  • Social Media Content

Own day-to-day content creation by:

Capturing photos and videos across dining halls, retail locations, and special events

  • Creating engaging content that showcases campus dining experiences
  • Assisting with short-form video production and trend-based content
  • Supporting social media scheduling and content planning
  • Maintaining an organized library of marketing photos and videos
  • Event Content Coverage

Serve as the primary content creator for M Food Co. events by:

Capturing event photography and video

  • Documenting behind-the-scenes moments
  • Recording student reactions and testimonials
  • Identifying real-time social media opportunities during events
  • Collaborating with the Event Interns to ensure key moments are documented
  • Digital Communications

Support M Food Co.'s digital communication channels by:

Leading weekly student-facing newsletter development, formatting, and digital content needs with support from the Event Interns, Ambassadors, and the Marketing Team

  • Support the monthly client newsletter by contributing photos, visual assets, digital performance updates, and content support as assigned
  • Creating graphics and visual assets for email campaigns
  • Supporting Dine on Campus website updates as needed
  • Assisting with digital promotional campaigns throughout the academic year
  • Campaign Reporting & Analytics

Help measure marketing success by:

Tracking social media engagement and campaign performance

  • Assisting with monthly digital marketing reports
  • Compiling event and campaign recap documents
  • Organizing photos, videos, and performance metrics for future use
  • Identifying trends and insights to improve future marketing efforts
  • Cross-Team Collaboration

Collaborate with Event, Boost, Retail, Wellness, Ambassadors, and other Marketing Team members

  • Support major initiatives including Welcome Week, Milestones, Love at First Bite, Taste of Home, Fuel Up for Finals, ImpactFul, and additional campus campaigns
  • Assist with creative brainstorming and campaign planning meetings

Learning Objectives:

  • By the end of this internship, students will:

Develop a professional content portfolio featuring photography, videography, graphics, and digital campaigns

  • Gain experience managing content across multiple digital marketing channels
  • Learn best practices for social media strategy and content planning
  • Build skills in digital analytics and marketing performance reporting
  • Strengthen storytelling, visual communication, and brand marketing skills
  • Understand how digital marketing supports student engagement, brand awareness, and business objectives

This is a paid intern position; however, it is not eligible for paid time off (PTO) or benefits such as medical, dental, vision, etc.

Because this position requires you to perform services in an educational facility, there may be periods when the Company does not require you to perform work (such as winter and summer breaks when food service needs decline or cease). Any such periods during which you do not perform work on the Company’s behalf may be unpaid and deemed a temporary layoff.
