Role Overview
We are looking for an experienced, AI-first Digital Marketing Industry Subject Matter Expert who combines deep digital marketing expertise with substantial practical experience using generative AI and emerging technologies in modern marketing workflows.
This is a remote contract role covering approximately 30 working days between September 2026 and May 2027. The role will contribute practitioner expertise to the enhancement of an established professional digital marketing learning programme. The focus is on ensuring that applied activities, worked examples, assessments and supporting materials reflect how effective digital marketers operate in an environment where AI is increasingly embedded across research, strategy, content, campaign execution, optimisation, analysis and decision-making.
The successful candidate will bring a critical practitioner perspective to both digital marketing and AI. This includes understanding where AI can improve marketing performance and productivity, where human judgement remains essential, and how experienced marketers evaluate, challenge, refine and contextualise AI-generated outputs.
- Demonstrated current, hands-on experience applying generative AI and emerging technologies within professional digital marketing workflows.
- Strong understanding of how AI is changing digital marketing strategy, research, content development, campaign execution, optimisation, analytics and professional decision-making.
- Demonstrated ability to critically evaluate AI-generated marketing outputs and apply professional judgement to challenge, refine, contextualise and improve them.
- Substantial current professional experience across digital marketing strategy, channels, campaign development, execution, optimisation and measurement.
- Deep digital marketing subject matter expertise with the professional credibility to provide authoritative practitioner guidance on contemporary practice.
- Strong understanding of customer journeys, campaign planning, channel selection, content, performance measurement, experimentation, optimisation and commercial decision-making.
- Demonstrated ability to distinguish strong professional work from work that is merely technically competent and explain that distinction clearly to non-specialists.
- Ability to review existing materials for accuracy, credibility, relevance, consistency and alignment with current professional practice.
- Strong written communication skills and the ability to translate complex professional judgement into concise, practical and usable guidance.
- Confidence collaborating with learning designers, academic contributors, senior stakeholders and other subject matter specialists.
- Experience contributing to professional learning content, assessments, case studies, capability frameworks, mentoring or professional education would be advantageous.
- Experience across B2B and B2C digital marketing environments would be advantageous. Key Responsibilities
- Review existing learning materials, activities, assessment briefs, case studies and worked examples to ensure they reflect current AI-enabled digital marketing practice.
- Provide practitioner expertise on how generative AI and emerging technologies are changing digital marketing workflows, capabilities, outputs and professional expectations.
- Develop practical guidance demonstrating how marketers can use AI effectively while applying critical thinking, professional judgement, brand context and commercial awareness.
- Advise on assessment design, including which capabilities remain important to assess when AI can produce first drafts, analysis and routine marketing outputs.
- Work collaboratively with learning designers and academic contributors to translate established curriculum frameworks into credible, applied learning experiences.
- Develop and refine practical source material, worked examples, case studies, activity guidance and assessment content based on contemporary marketing practice.
- Define the difference between technically competent outputs, including AI-assisted outputs, and high-quality practitioner work, translating this distinction into clear assessment criteria and learner guidance.
- Record concise practical walkthroughs demonstrating how an experienced digital marketer approaches selected AI-enabled tasks, tools, decisions or workflows.
- Provide practitioner insight into common marketing challenges, mistakes, trade-offs, constraints and decision points, including the risks and limitations associated with AI-generated work.
- Maintain consistency in practitioner expectations, terminology, examples, assessment standards and professional relevance across different areas of the programme.
- Participate in selected discussions with academic, learning and other senior stakeholders, communicating practitioner recommendations clearly and constructively.
- Work effectively within established curriculum boundaries and existing materials, identifying where subject matter expertise can add the greatest value without unnecessarily redesigning content outside the agreed scope.
- Collaborative, people-centred performance culture.
- Opportunities to contribute specialist expertise within a fast-paced professional environment.
- Remote contract working arrangement.
- Opportunity to apply contemporary AI and digital marketing expertise to the development of professionally relevant learning experiences.
