The Ohio Environmental Council is seeking a Digital and Email Marketing Intern to join our Communications team. This position is ideal for a creative, detail-oriented individual who is eager to gain hands-on experience in email marketing and social media within a nonprofit environment. In this role, the intern will contribute to email campaign management, content development, and audience engagement initiatives while supporting a growing and dynamic marketing program.

The internship offers valuable opportunities to develop practical marketing skills and gain exposure to strategic communications efforts. Working closely with two Communications Managers, the Digital and Email Marketing Intern will report directly to the Communications Director.

Internship Responsibilities

  • Assisting in building and organizing our email marketing structure, including lists, segments, and automated workflows
  • Helping develop email campaigns that align with our brand voice and marketing goals
  • Supporting audience growth by managing sign-up forms, landing pages, and subscriber lists
  • Tracking and reporting on email performance metrics and assess for improvement
  • Supporting social media campaigns and promotions, including planning, creating, and scheduling content
  • Tracking and reporting basic social metrics (engagement, reach, follower growth)
  • Researching industry trends, competitor campaigns, and email/marketing best practices
  • Helping maintain a consistent brand presence across email and social channels

Qualifications

  • You are a current student or recent graduate in Marketing, Communications, or a related field (preferred but not required)
  • You have strong written communication skills, with attention to tone, clarity, and detail
  • You have interest in or some exposure to email marketing concepts (segmentation, automation)
  • You have familiarity with digital platforms (e.g., Mailchimp, Hootsuite, etc.) is a plus
  • You are comfortable with basic design tools (e.g., Canva) is a plus.
  • You have the ability to manage time effectively, meet deadlines, and work independently.

Compensation and benefits

The salary range for this position is $15 per hour.

Additional Details

The OEC’s headquarters is in Columbus, Ohio. The location of the Digital and Email Marketing Intern is flexible within the State of Ohio, with a preference for Columbus, Ohio. Some travel may be requested, including travel for conferences and meetings with partners, donors, etc.
