About the opportunity
Create the stories behind the materials shaping tomorrow.
Across EMR, thousands of people are doing the hard, practical work that makes the circular economy possible. Your job will be to get behind the scenes, capture it and turn it into content people want to watch, share and remember.
You’ll create social-first video, graphics and visual content that brings our people, sites and work to life. From a quick reel filmed on site to an employee story, explainer, campaign video or animated graphic, you’ll find engaging ways to show what EMR does and why it matters.
This is a hands-on creative role. You’ll need to be just as comfortable filming on one of our sites as you are editing footage, designing a graphic or spotting the next content opportunity.
What you’ll be doing
- Create social-first video: film and edit short-form content for LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok and YouTube, creating reels, interviews, explainers and behind-the-scenes content.
- Capture our people and places: travel to EMR sites and offices to find and tell real stories about the people, processes and technology behind our work.
- Turn footage into more: take longer-form footage and turn it into multiple engaging pieces of content for different channels, audiences and formats.
- Create graphics and visual content: design bold, on-brand graphics, social assets, infographics, statistics, templates and campaign content.
- Bring content to life through motion: create overlays, animated text and motion graphics that make video and social content more engaging.
- Make complex ideas simple: turn topics like recycling, material recovery and the circular economy into clear, accessible stories people can understand.
- Plan content with the team: work closely with the wider marketing team to turn campaigns, projects and business activity into strong social content.
- Spot the story: proactively identify content opportunities across the business rather than waiting for a brief to land.
- Understand what works: keep up with social trends, formats and platform behaviour and find ways to use them in a way that feels right for EMR.
- Repurpose across channels: adapt ideas and assets for different platforms, making sure content works for the audience and channel rather than taking a one-size-fits-all approach.
- Support our social channels: help with the scheduling, publishing and monitoring of content across EMR’s social media platforms.
About you
You love making content and can prove it.
You know how to spot a story, capture the right moment and turn raw footage or an idea into something people actually want to watch.
You’re comfortable getting out from behind the desk, meeting people and working in busy operational environments. You can put someone at ease in front of a camera, find the interesting angle in a technical subject and know when a simple idea will work better than an overproduced one.
Most importantly, you understand that great social content isn’t just about looking good – it needs to make people stop, watch and understand the story.
Experience
- Content creation: experience creating engaging short-form video and social-first content, with a portfolio or examples that demonstrate what you can do.
- Filming and editing: strong, hands-on filming and video editing skills, using Premiere Pro or similar software.
- Graphic design: experience creating social graphics and visual assets using Adobe Creative Suite, Canva or similar tools.
- Social platforms: a strong understanding of LinkedIn, Instagram, TikTok, Facebook and YouTube, including the formats and behaviours that work across each platform.
- Content production: experience taking content from initial idea through filming, editing and final delivery.
- Motion graphics: experience using After Effects or similar tools is desirable but not essential.
Skills and approach
- Creative storyteller: you can find the interesting story in everyday moments and turn complex or technical subjects into content people understand and remember.
- Confident behind the camera: you’re comfortable filming in different environments and know how to capture strong footage without needing a huge production set-up.
- Great with people: you can quickly build rapport and help colleagues feel natural and confident in front of the camera.
- Social-first thinker: you understand what makes people stop scrolling and how content needs to change across different platforms.
- Strong visual eye: you have high standards for composition, editing, graphics, typography and how content comes together.
- Fast and adaptable: you can respond quickly to opportunities, trends and changing priorities without losing sight of quality or brand.
- Proactive: you don’t always need to be handed a brief. You’ll look for stories, suggest ideas and find opportunities to create content.
- Highly organised: you can manage multiple pieces of content at different stages, work to deadlines and keep footage and assets organised.
- Happy to travel: you’ll spend time across EMR’s sites capturing content, so you’ll need to be comfortable travelling as part of the role.
Who we are:
The products we’ll all need tomorrow depend on us making the most of today’s end-of-life metals, plastics and other materials.
Take a car at the end of its life - most people just see a…car at the end of its life.
We see steel, aluminium, copper, plastics, rubber, glass, parts, fluids, costs, risks, markets and – most importantly - possibilities.
Now, multiply that by thousands of cars – we recover, reuse and recycle all those valuable materials and put them back to work as low-carbon materials for manufacturing, infrastructure, energy and transport.
And that’s just one thing we recycle. Add buildings, factories, ships, railways and industrial equipment. That’s all our hard work – the gritty, practical, commercial, difficult work our 4,000 global colleagues do every day.
Anything from a can to an aircraft carrier can become anything from a bicycle to a building and, at the same time, we help to avoid 19 million tonnes of carbon and 10 million tonnes of waste to landfill, protecting nature, resources and the next generation’s future.
Which is all well and good for us to say, but this is what the real people behind the really hard work think:
“The people who work here are from varied backgrounds and have a variety of beliefs, all of which are accepted and respected.”
“I’m encouraged to keep a healthy work-life balance so that I can be performing at my best.”
“I’ve been supported every step of the way in my career progression.”
‘‘EMR offers a fantastic and inclusive environment; collaboration across the whole business, humility and hard work.”
Four years as a certified Great Place To Work is no small feat. Oh, and don’t forget one of the UK’s Best Workplaces in Manufacturing, Production and Transportation. That’s pretty good too.
But we can do better. We’re aiming for a place in the top 60 companies in the UK – not for the accolade but for the improvement. A journey you should probably join us for.
If you want to be part of something bigger than yourself, have a role that really makes a difference and work with likeminded people towards the same purpose, this is the role for you.
Let’s crack on.
