Job Summary/Basic Function:

The Social Media Specialist is a student position responsible for helping promote the Center for Freshwater Research and Education (CFRE) and the College of Great Lakes Ecology and Education (CoGLEE) through engaging and informative social media content. The student will help showcase the people, research, educational opportunities, and activities that make CFRE and CoGLEE unique.

Minimum Qualifications:

Create and publish engaging social media content highlighting CFRE research, programs, events, and activities. Highlight CoGLEE student achievements, experiences, scholarships, internships, and accomplishments. Develop faculty, staff, and student spotlights to showcase the people behind CFRE and CoGLEE. Share research stories and translate scientific work into accessible and engaging content for the public.

Photograph and/or capture short videos of events, research activities, students, and facilities. Assist with promoting CFRE and CoGLEE events, programs, and opportunities.

Collaborate with faculty, staff, and students to identify stories and content worth sharing.

Help maintain a consistent, positive, and professional social media presence.

Monitor social media engagement and identify opportunities to increase awareness and participation.

Preferred Qualifications:

Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Interest in social media, marketing, communications, environmental science, education, or a related field.

Creative and comfortable developing new ideas for content.

Basic photography, video, graphic design, or social media experience preferred.

Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with faculty, staff, and students.

Reliable, organized, and comfortable representing CFRE and CoGLEE in a professional manner.

Work Hours:

4 Hours Per Week
