We are looking for a creative and enthusiastic individual to take the reins of our social media output at Somerset House.

The Social Media Manager will develop and deliver creative social content plans, designed to engage and grow audiences across platforms, share our work with as wide an audience as possible and raise awareness of the mission and vision of our organisation.

You will be an in-house social media expert and ensure that Somerset House is always up to speed on the latest trends in social media. You will be confident using photography and video and to create bold, accessible and shareable content that communicates our work in an engaging way.

You will be on the front line of our social medial interaction with audiences, shaping the tone of voice on all our key platforms. You will be adept at interpreting data and sharing insights on social media performance and audience behaviour to make sure we’re responding to the ever-changing social media landscape.

What we are looking for:

CONTENT PLANNING & CREATIVE DEVELOPMENT

  • Collaborate with internal and external designers, photographers, and videographers to create and curate visually striking content that captures the essence of Somerset House’s brand, exhibitions, events, and resident artists.
  • Curate and develop bespoke creative content for each of Somerset House’s social media channels, including Somerset House Studios, approaching these with a sense of creativity, purpose and impact.
  • Support Senior Social Media Manager to ensure Somerset House’s social media marketing strategy is successfully implemented across all platforms, developing content to drive set objectives and targets
  • Use social media to embody and activate Somerset House’s brand principles and brand personality
  • Develop engaging content strands that increase awareness of Somerset House’s mission and vision, sharing activity from Somerset House Studios and our resident community
  • Work alongside Marketing Managers and programming teams to ensure Somerset House’s cultural programme is celebrated and profiled clearly on all platforms, developing content that deepen engagement with each project, and ensure that Somerset House’s social media actively contributes to commercial targets for ticketed events and increases attendance at free events
  • Plan, create and deliver inspiring content, including always- content and user-generated content, to promote accessible, joyful engagement with Somerset House as an accessible, high quality visitor destination, actively promoting on-site eating & drinking, retail opportunities and Somerset House as a compelling place to meet people and enjoy history and architecture.
  • Curate and amplify user-generated content, encouraging Somerset House visitors and followers to share their experiences and drive engagement
  • Work with Engagement & Skills team to develop content plans that promote and share the work of Somerset House’s creative careers programmes
  • Keep aware of wider social media trends and where appropriate, engage in online conversations and interact with followers to present Somerset House as an open, contemporary and engaging brand.
  • Identify new areas for growth and development to ensure Somerset House maximises new content and trend opportunities around social media, for example TikTok and LinkedIn
  • Work closely and collaboratively with the Press team to maximise campaign opportunities; identifying and developing relationships with key influencers and ensuring social media is taken into account in all communications

Delivery

  • Prepare content plans for stakeholder reviews ahead of time and secure relevant approvals
  • Lead the scheduling of all social media content, balancing commercial priorities (sales campaigns, retail) with messaging around Somerset House mission and vision, creative community and visitor experience
  • Work with the Development team to ensure obligations to sponsors are met, and that sponsor-related social media activity is configured and delivered in an appropriate way
  • Alongside Marketing Managers, work with Commercial Event clients to ensure social media activity is configured and delivered in an appropriate way to support partner events, ensuring partner obligations are met
  • Interact with followers as the voice of Somerset House, as well as identify and respond to direct communications in a timely manner, liaising with Visitor Experience team and escalating issues where necessary

Intelligence

  • Act as the champion for social media and online audiences within Somerset House, ensuring internal stakeholders take full account of our external digital context
  • Monitor and benchmark performance of Somerset House social media activity and actively apply learnings to refine content plans and improve performance, including post-event evaluations
  • Keep the marketing team informed of emerging social media trends, platform updates, and new features, ensuring the team stays ahead of changes that could impact digital marketing strategies.
  • Present relevant social media trends and innovations at marketing team meetings, identifying opportunities for creative adaptation in ongoing or future campaigns.
  • Report on and evaluate social media analytics and intelligence, raising awareness throughout the organisation of performance and opportunities, taking into account organisational Key Performance Indicators

Skills, knowledge & expertise required for the role:

Experience:

  • Strong experience using or managing social media accounts and engaging with digital audiences, ideally for cultural organisations and brands
  • Digital content production experience, with skills in photography and short form video production, ideally using the Adobe Creative Cloud (e.g. Photoshop, Lightroom, Indesign, Premiere Pro)
  • Experience in collaborating with a wide range of internal and external partners to successfully deliver projects, and influencing at all levels including senior team members

Skills:

  • An editorial approach, with the ability to generate creative ideas and adapt/repurpose content for a broad range of channels
  • An excellent understanding of data and social media analytics, with the ability to spot trends and translate these into actions and recommendations
  • Ability to plan and manage multiple projects and campaign schedules
  • A creative mindset, comfortable in making decisions in line with a campaign brief
  • Ability to react quickly and calmly in fast-paced situations
