Essex County Council (ECC) is one of the largest and most dynamic local authorities in the UK, serving a population of 2 million residents, and has a very successful track record of delivering transformational change. ECC anticipated change was needed in the public sector and has worked to deliver better quality at lower cost. We have an ambitious transformation agenda – one with the scope to reach every part of the council. We are changing the way we think, the way we work, and the ways in which we deliver our services. We are committed to becoming a place where individuals, partners and communities feel proud to play their role and genuinely want to belong. We’re immensely proud of our flexible working options.
The Communications & Marketing team has recently gone through its exciting restructure, moving to a consultancy-based approach, linking the expertise of the corporate team with effective delivery through more devolved approaches. Its work is insight driven, with the user at the heart of all communications activity. To succeed, we need the right people on board to grasp and run with our long-term plan and help shape and mould our future.
As a Social Media Adviser you will be responsible with team members for implementing the social media strategy for the organisation. You will also support the effective management of corporately owned social media channels and the effective deployment of social media as part of an integrated approach to all communications outputs. Carrying out regular checks of devolved social media communications to ensure they are consistent in terms of voice, branding, messaging and frequency of posting will be important too. What is more, we will rely on you to develop social listening projects to increase engagement with local online communities as a way to better serve the needs of Essex residents. Working with colleagues across the Council to ensure effective use of social media, identifying and sharing best practice and insights and promoting the marketing and communications function as a centre of excellence – all are elements of this challenging role.
Creative and innovative in approach, you are a passionate advocate for the potential of social media to transform communication between the Council and the public. You are also keen to build on your experience of running social media activity in a large organisation. As well as a strong understanding of social analytics and what works in terms of messaging and tone of voice, you are adaptable and adept at working in a fast moving, customer-first environment that relies on real-time communications. In addition, you have experience of curating user-generated content and training non-professional social media users and understand the importance of quality assurance. You also welcome change, have a growth mindset and are happy to work flexibly and collaboratively across structural boundaries in support of key outcomes.
Plus, we understand that life sometimes does not always go according to plan and that there are times where work has to fit around you, which is why we are committed to ensuring flexible working options across all of our business units.
At Essex County Council we have a vision to be a county where innovation brings prosperity and we are dedicated to improving the lives of our residents. With a total workforce of around 7,500, Essex County Council is one of the largest county councils in the country and we truly believe our greatest asset is our people. They are fundamentally key to our current and future success.
We offer an excellent benefits package to all our employees. It is important to us that you have a healthy work/life balance, which is why we offer flexible working solutions.
