Aim to post regularly and use those articles to not only impress but learn too. Don’t forget to measure your performance and understand how the various metrics work with tools such as Google Analytics.

Slightly more complicated but still achievable is to build your own website. It’s not as difficult as you may think and most of the platforms like WordPress are easy to understand and configure. Many marketing businesses will use these to build sites for clients so give yourself the chance to learn a lot more about how HTML and other coding language works.

We all know how important social media is for marketing and the importance that many companies put on its management. You should, at the very least, be on Twitter and Facebook and post regularly. Build your following, post the right kind of content and show that you know how to handle these kinds of media. There are numerous opportunities to learn about marketing as well as all the latest trends online and most of it is actually free. You don’t always need a certificate or full-blown degree but you certainly will require a deeper level of knowledge than how to do a SMART analysis. There’s no doubt that digital marketing offers a whole host of opportunities and is a growing sector that is incredibly varied. If you haven’t got a degree but want to work in this arena, the onus is on you to demonstrate your capabilities. Get it right and you should find doors and opportunities opening up for you.
